While under 20% of all workplace injuries happen to healthcare workers, healthcare workers suffer 50% of all assaults. These numbers continue to rise and could play a significant role in the future of nursing. If the issue of workplace violence is not addressed and strategies put in place to reduce the risks nurses face, then more nurses will leave the profession – either as a result of their own trauma, or from indirect trauma as a result of witnessing an assault on a coworker. This session defines workplace violence in the healthcare setting and focus on prevalence and prevention strategies. It also covers employee rights and offer numerous resources nurses can take back to their employers for designing and implementing a workplace violence prevention program.

While nephrology nurses’ career paths vary, listening to another nurse’s journey triggers our own memories of career challenges and choices. Participate in this session to relive your own journey and discover new possibilities – or to revisit the journey of a fellow nephrology nurse.
