This workshop focuses on various complications experienced by patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the assessments, planning, and interventions for which all nephrology nurses are responsible. In addition to the more common complications associated with CKD (anemia, heart disease, gout, and diabetes), complications related to treatment modalities (disequilibrium syndrome, water treatment issues, vascular access problems) also are discussed. Issues that may arise in home dialysis (such as peritonitis) as well as complications related to organ transplantation are addressed.
