A thorough foot assessment can provide us with a lot of information about our patient population. From foot anomalies including routine conditions that require monitoring, to ulcerative wounds a foot assessment can help us to be aware of changes and intervene appropriately. Routine screening practices, assessment techniques and interventions to implement will all be described. Implementing a foot care protocol can improve the health of your patients.

Purpose: Provide learners with the knowledge and skills to detect ophthalmic and foot care issues for the person on hemodialysis.

Objectives:
  • Analyze the impact of CKD/ESRD foot problems on the nephrology community.
  • Recognize assessment techniques used in a foot examination.
  • Organize resources necessary to start a foot assessment program.
  • Identify goals and potential barriers to a successful program.
