Evidence-Based Practice for Nephrology Nursing

Credits: None available.

The position paper on evidence-based practice (EBP) from the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (2005) defines evidence-based nursing as "an integration of the best evidence available, nursing expertise, and the values and preferences of the individuals, families, and communities who are served".

Let's determine now, for ourselves, what is involved in EBP and what needs to be considered for integration of this concept into nephrology nursing to make our practice the best for our patients.

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
1) Explain the importance of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in nephrology nursing.
2) List the steps of EBP.
3) Identify four internet resources/databases where previous research may be located.
4) Recognize potential barriers to EBP within an organization so that strategies may be planned to overcome them.
