Welcome Home: Improving Knowledge and Education of Home Modalities

This workshop provides nephrology nurses with the background knowledge, skills, and hands-on training to provide more effective education to the chronic kidney disease patient selecting a home modality.

• Describe the surgical site evaluation and peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion procedure.
• Assess a maturing exit-site of a peritoneal dialysis patient.
• Discuss the components and procedure of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and a cycler.
• Compare the components necessary for a home hemodialysis system against a facility-based machine.
• List the steps to create and implement a home dialysis modality for a patient.
• Perform a peritoneal dialysis exchange.
• Examine and set up a cycler system.
• Examine and set up a home hemodialysis system.
