Troy Zimmerman

Special Projects Director, National Kidney Foundation

Troy Zimmerman helps position the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) as a resource for policy makers on chronic kidney disease and organ transplantation issues. In 2020, he was instrumental in helping to pass legislation providing permanent Medicare coverage of immunosuppressive drugs for kidney recipients whose Medicare eligibility ends 36 months post-transplant and who do not have immunosuppressive coverage under other public or private insurance. Troy has worked with Congress on other transplant issues, including an NKF initiative to create a program to assist living organ donors with travel and subsistence expenses, and helped with kidney community legislation to clarify kidney-paired transplants do not violate the National Organ Transplant Act. Troy assisted NKF in legislation to create the CDC’s Chronic Kidney Disease Initiative and in the authorization of a Medicare education benefit to inform CKD Stage 4 patients on kidney replacement therapy options. Currently, he is serving NKF in building support for the Living Donor Protection Act to prohibit discrimination in the pricing, availability and benefits level of life, disability, and long-term care insurance for living organ donors.
