Goal: To increase awareness about pre-ESRD education programs, barriers to early pre-ESRD education, and programs designed to decrease late referral from nurses and other healthcare providers.

Objectives:

Explain how early pre-ESRD education can enhance a patient's choice for self-care.
Discuss the ways nurses can provide pre-ESRD education to patients.
Identify the barriers to pre-ESRD education and the ability to offer multiple dialysis modalities.
Describe pre-ESRD education on a global scale.
Discuss solutions and research recommendations for providing pre-ESRD education and various RRT modality choices.
