Goal: To provide an overview of the relationship between hemodialysis knowledge and perceived medical adherence to prescribed treatment in African Americans.

Objectives:

Define adherence to treatment.
Explain how increased hemodialysis knowledge may improve patient adherence to treatment.
Discuss how nephrology nurses and other dialysis staff can ensure effective teaching to improve adherence.
