Goal: To provide an overview of relationships among structural empowerment, psychological empowerment, and burnout in registered staff nurses working in outpatient hemodialysis settings.

Objectives:

  1. Define burnout.
  2. Explain how high levels over burnout may affect nephrology nurses and patient care in the dialysis setting.
  3. Discuss the relationship between structural empowerment and psychological empowerment, and their role as mechanisms to help overcome burnout.
