Goal: To provide an overview of the cultural differences of Native Americans, the impact of those differences on health care to Native Americans with chronic kidney disease, and the value of understanding and respecting these differences in the delivery of care.
Objectives:
Explain the importance of cultural competence and awareness in providing health care to patients whose cultures and beliefs are different than one's own.
Discuss the major themes that emerged through nursing students' responses to providing care for a Native American patient with chronic kidney disease.
List questions the current study has raised regarding cultural competency and the role of nurses in providing unbiased care for all patients.
