Editor's Note: Just prior to going to press with this issue of Nephrology Nursing Journal, we learned of the passing of our colleague, Barbara Prowant. Barb was active in ANNA for more than 30 years serving in many positions including National Secretary. She was a pioneer and leader in peritoneal dialysis and mentored many nephrology nurses throughout her career. Most recently, Barb served on the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission Board. She was an expert clinician, researcher, and author. When the Peritoneal Dialysis Special Interest Group developed a monograph for NNJ in 2004, they asked Barb to write the introduction because of the great respect they have for her. We reprint that article here to honor and remember her and recognize her contributions to nephrology nursing, peritoneal dialysis, and the patients whose lives her work improved.
