Leah Foster Smith joined Metrolina Nephrology Associates, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2001 as a family nurse practitioner. She was promoted in 2007 to director of advanced practitioners and now supervises the largest group of nephrology APs in the United States with a total of 34 nephrology advanced practitioners. Leah's areas of expertise and practice are CKD, ESRD, and complex HTN. Leah is also AP practice clinical consultant with Clear Edge Medical Management, assisting multiple nephrology practices in the utilization of nephrology APs. Leah is also the creator and chair of a formalized CKD program managing over 22,000 CKD patients. She is the chief education officer for Interactive Nephrology, a provider of online education for advanced practice providers in nephrology, and the creator of a formalized new nephrology AP training program. Leah is active in ANNA and is currently involved at the chapter level serving as Greater Charlotte Chapter Health Policy Representative with previous local/state roles of president, president elect, and secretary of the Greater Charlotte Chapter. She also serves ANNA nationally on the ANNA National Conference Committee. She has served on the advancing American kidney health workgroup, and served as editor and author in the 7th edition of the ANNA Core Curriculum. She has presented nationally at multiple conferences for ANNA, RPA, NKF, and RRI.
