Goal: To provide an overview of depressive symptoms in patients with end stage renal disease and therapeutic interventions to improve outcomes.

Objectives:

Define depression in ESRD.
Describe the two pathways associated with depression in patients with ESRD.
Explain the consequences of inflammation and depressive symptoms in patients with ESRD.
Identify ways depression may compromise a patient's adherence to treatment regimens.
