Betcy Mathews DNP, APRN, FNP-C

Betcy Mathews is a board-certified nurse practitioner currently working as the Nephrology NP in Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston. After earning her Bachelor of Nursing degree in 2010, she worked as a critical care nurse where she developed her passion for nephrology. She graduated with her MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner from University of Texas School of Nursing in 2016 and she earned her DNP degree from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi in 2021. She has over 7 yrs. of experience as a nephrology nurse practitioner where she focuses on chronic kidney disease, dialysis, vascular access management, and fluid and electrolyte imbalances. She has been instrumental in creating organizational processes at the hospital level including streamlining vascular access care and providing multidisciplinary care for dialysis patients. She also serves as a resource for the living donor program, providing consultation and serving as the ILDA (Independent Living Donor Advocate). She is an active member of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, and her local nursing organizations and hospital wide committees.
