Paolo Raggi MD, FACC, FACP, FASNC, FCCT

Dr. Paolo Raggi was named Academic Director of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and Section Chief, Cardiology, at Alberta Health Services in 2012. He also serves as Chair of Cardiac Research. Dr. Raggi received his Doctor of Medicine and Surgery degree Summa Cum Laude from the University of Bologna Medical School in Bologna, Italy. He served residencies in Internal Medicine at Bologna University Hospital and at Cabrini Medical Center – New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York; completing a cardiovascular fellowship at the Long Island College Hospital – State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn in 1994.

He was Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia, then Associate and Full Professor of Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans until 2005, where he directed the training program in Adult Cardiology and the Cardiovascular Imaging Section. He was most recently Professor of Medicine – Cardiology and Professor of Radiology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Raggi’s research interests are preventive cardiology, surrogate markers, and imaging of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease in patients affected by end-stage renal disease. His clinical practice focused the interpretation and coordination of cardiac imaging for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, congenital cardiac anomalies and evaluation of left ventricular function and viability. A nationally and internationally recognized clinical investigator, Dr. Raggi’s research has contributed to major changes in his field. He is a noted lecturer, conference speaker, and contributor to major peer-reviewed journals and books.
