Acute kidney injury often occurs as a complication of liver failure. A focus of the healthcare team is the need to preserve renal as well as liver function. Continuous veno-venous hemodialysis (CVVH) is often preferred to intermittent renal replacement therapy (RRT) when treating this type of patient. This session reviews the various causes of dual liver failure/acute kidney injury, the need for treatment, and the medical and nursing implications of care.
