Description

Patients who receive a living donor kidney live longer than those who receive a transplant from a deceased donor; however, the barriers to living donation are considerable. This session shares information about resources, training, and support available to overcome barriers to living organ donation, including a National Kidney Foundation initiative to train people to share their story about the need for a kidney donor and a transplant.

How can we get BABG in our area? Is this done through transplant centers or dialysis units or local NKF?

It is also important to provide information to the general public about living kidney donation (not just through people who need a kidney), especially the need for non-directed donors. The nonprofit, Kidney Donor Conversations provides education and support about Living Kidney Donation to the public. We are anxiously awaiting for NKF and Fresenius to provide the home test kits so that the public can easily get on the new national kidney donor registry. Do you know when this will be available and details of implementation? How can Kidney Donor Conversations partner with NKF to help increase the number of living kidney donors?
