Clinical Challenges in the Acute Care Setting: The Practice of Competent Leadership & Fluid Management in the Acute Setting

Planned by ANNA’s Acute Care Special Interest Group, this workshop focuses on the special needs of patients with acute injuries/diseases requiring renal replacement therapy. Information on situations that can progress to acute kidney injury – pathology, clinical presentation, and required nursing care – are addressed. Specific aspects of CVVH and CRRT, such as patient indicators for selection of CRRT as well as the parameters used in each, are also be presented. The workshop includes a discussion of the factors affecting fluid management in patients with acute kidney injury. Finally, the implications of cardiovascular disease as a cause as well as its impact on the outcome of acute kidney injury and treatment are discussed.
