As the nation continues to confront and mange the opiod crisis, knowledge is a powerful tool for nephrology nurses. This workshop provides information on the regulatory environment and opiod use and help nephrology nurses understand how substance abuse occurs and how to recognize abuse. Non-opioid medications and non-pharmacologic methods of pain management are explored. In addition, a panel engages the audience in exploring "next steps" and addresses concerns of both nurses and patients regarding the use of opioid and pain management in the future.
