Goal: Recognize the role of the advanced practice nurse in the hemodialysis unit.

Objectives:

1. Identify several barriers and facilitators to advanced practice nursing in nephrology.
2. Give a brief synopsis of the history of advanced practice nursing.
3. Discuss three reasons for advocating advanced practice nursing in nephrology.
4. Describe the roles of an advanced practice nurse (APN) in the hemodialysis unit.
